Privacy, compatibility & limits

File contents and passwords are processed in a dedicated worker in your browser. They are not uploaded, logged, or saved by this app. Downloads remain available until you change the operation or close the page. Your browser manages downloaded files. The web server may log ordinary page requests; no analytics, ads, or AI scripts are enabled in this version.

Input limit: 128 MiB total and 500 files. ZIP extraction is limited to 500 entries and 256 MiB of expanded data. Operations stop after two minutes, or when you cancel. 7z and Zstandard creation have a 64 MiB input limit. Zstandard extraction is limited to 128 MiB with single frames and no external dictionaries. Very large archives, nested extraction, and split archives are outside this version’s scope. RAR is extraction-only. Modern browser support is required.

Password protection uses AES-256 via zip.js for ZIP and 7-Zip WebAssembly for 7z. ZIP filenames and file sizes are visible; 7z can encrypt its file listing too. Password-protected ZIP compatibility varies by archive app; there is no password recovery. An external security review is still needed before making stronger security assurances.

How to password-protect a ZIP file

Choose the files to bundle, up to 500 files and 128 MiB total.
Enter and confirm a unique password of at least 12 characters.
Create the protected ZIP and save both the archive and its password securely.

Before you start

File processing happens on your device. File contents and passwords are not uploaded to FileLance. Your original files stay unchanged; save the results before leaving the page. Large files can use significant browser memory, especially on phones.

Does this hide filenames?

ZIP encryption protects file contents, but filenames and sizes remain visible. Select 7z instead if you also need an encrypted file listing; 7z creation has a 64 MiB input limit.

Can every ZIP app open this archive?

AES-encrypted ZIP support varies. Recipients need an AES-compatible archive app such as 7-Zip. Check compatibility before relying on the archive.

Can you recover a forgotten password?

No. This app does not upload or save passwords and has no recovery mechanism. Adding an existing ZIP as input wraps it in a new archive; it does not modify the original ZIP.
