Encrypted archives need their original password. If filenames are hidden, enter the password and click Open archive. The converted ZIP is not password-protected.

Choose a RAR, 7z, or tar archive above. You can pick which files go into the new ZIP. Multi-volume archives are not supported. Symbolic and hard links are omitted.

Privacy, compatibility & limits

File contents and passwords are processed in a dedicated worker in your browser. They are not uploaded, logged, or saved by this app. Downloads remain available until you change the operation or close the page. Your browser manages downloaded files. The web server may log ordinary page requests. No ads or AI scripts are enabled in this version; cookieless, self-hosted analytics counts page views only and never receives file contents, filenames or passwords.

Input limit: 128 MiB total and 500 files. ZIP extraction is limited to 500 entries and 256 MiB of expanded data. Operations stop after two minutes, or when you cancel. 7z and Zstandard creation have a 64 MiB input limit. Zstandard extraction is limited to 128 MiB with single frames and no external dictionaries. Compressed tar files (.tar.gz, .tgz, .tar.xz, .tar.bz2) are unpacked in two steps; the inner tar counts toward the 256 MiB limit. Archives whose compression dictionary exceeds 128 MiB are refused to protect browser memory. Converting to ZIP keeps folder paths but not empty folders, links, or the original password. Very large archives, nested archives inside archives, and split archives are outside this version’s scope. RAR is extraction-only. Modern browser support is required.

Password protection uses AES-256 via zip.js for ZIP and 7-Zip WebAssembly for 7z. ZIP filenames and file sizes are visible; 7z can encrypt its file listing too. Password-protected ZIP compatibility varies by archive app; there is no password recovery. An external security review is still needed before making stronger security assurances.

How to convert RAR to ZIP online

  1. Choose the .rar file you want to convert.

Before you start

File processing happens on your device. File contents and passwords are not uploaded to FileLance. Your original files stay unchanged; save the results before leaving the page. Large files can use significant browser memory, especially on phones.

Limits

  • The RAR may be up to 128 MiB, with at most 500 files and 256 MiB of extracted data.
  • Split RAR sets (part1.rar, part2.rar) are not supported.
  • The new ZIP is not encrypted, even if the RAR was. Use Protect files afterwards if you need a password.

Why convert RAR to ZIP?

Most computers open ZIP files without extra software, while RAR usually needs a separate app. Converting makes the files easier to share.

Will the ZIP be the same size?

Usually it is a little larger, because RAR often compresses better than ZIP. The exact size depends on your files.

Is my password kept in the new ZIP?

No. The password is only used to read the RAR on your device. The converted ZIP has no password and is not saved anywhere by FileLance.
